Tigrigobius
The genus Tigrigobius as currently defined
by Van Tassell (1988) is a paraphyletic assemblage. Current
studies by Van Tassell, Zardoya, and Lukas hope to resolve this
problem using mtDNA and additional morphological characters.
Members of this genus are distributed in the eastern Pacific
from the northern Gulf of California south to Panama and in
the western Atlantic from Florida to Brazil. They generally
inhabit coral or rocky reefs.
