IDENTIFICATION Head Pores - Cephalic head canal with pores B',C,D,E,F,H' and preopercle canal with pores M',N' Scales - body naked with a few modified ctenoid scales at the caudal base and on the posterior of the body; four basicaudal scales; 9-12 scales in a patch between the 10th-12th dark band

Fins - D1 - VII (sometimes 6) first spine filamentous; D2 - 11(11-12); pectoral - 18(17-19); caudal segmented 17, fin rounded; anal - 10; pelvic I,5 all rays branched, disk complete and ovate, extending 3/4 distance to anus, frenum well developed.

Head - Interorbital narrow about 1/2 eye diameter; anterior nostral tubular; posterior nostral with small flap on anterior rim;

Papillae - A transverse pattern with three vertical rows anterior of row b; row 5i/6i attached to the anterior of row b and not extending below the level of row d; no rows extending below row d;

Color - Preserved color - straw-colored with 13 prominent and sharply defined dark brown bands on the body behind the pectoral fin. Six additional bands in front of the pectoral fin

Distribution - Shore waters from Trinidad and Venezuela
