Fins - D1 - VII(6-8 rare), spines not elongate; D2 - 12(11-13); anal 10(9-11); pectoral 16-17(15-18); pelvic I,5

Head - Outer row of teeth in both jaws enlarged; barbule in front of eye not evident;

Papillae - Three vertical rows in front of the anterior of row b; row 5i/6i continuous and under the middle of row b, the ventral end extending below the level of row d

Color -Body with 9 darker bands alternating with lighter bands, not sharply delimited on the edges, lighter bands often incomplete, a series of dark small brown spots present along midline, generally one per band; color variable and can be very light or dark in appearance without noticable bands.

Distribution - Found along the Gulf of Mexico coast from souther Texas to Key West, Florida and along the Atlantic coast north to Miami and Cape Canaveral.

Habitat - Esturine and coastal habitats

Notes - Very similar to Gobiosoma bosc, all characters overlap.
