IDENTIFICATION Head Pores - Cephalic head canal with pores B',C(s),D(s),E,F,H' and posterior ocularscapular pores K',L'; preopercle with pores M',N,O' Scales - Two basicaudal scales present.

Fins - D1 - VII (rarely 6 or 8), not filamentous; D2 - 12(10-13); anal - 10(9-11); pectoral - 17(15-18); pelvic fin I,5, fin long reaching to anus

Head - Very small barbel present in front of eye on inner edge of upper lip; maxilla ending near posterior of eye.

Papillae - Three vertical rows in front of row b; row 5i/6i under the middle of row b and extending below the level of row d; row d continuous.

Color - Body from base of pelvic with 9 light cross bars alternating with darker brown areas, each about the same width; a median series of small dark brown spots present.

Distribution - Gulf coast from Marco, Florida to Texas.

Habitat - Coastal bays and deeper canals in shell sand bottoms.
