Description: A small eleotrid with head dorso-ventrally compressed; mouth large, oblique, lower jaw prominent; no preopercular spine; no spines on first or second branchiostegal rays; no serrations on bony supraorbital ridges; eyes dorsolateral; interorbital not wider than eye diameters; infraorbital papillae present in transverse rows on head; D1 - VI; head, predorsal, and prepelvic regions without scales; scales on trunk ctenoid with 30-36 in longitudinal series.
