IDENTIFICATION Head Pores - Cephalic canal with pores B',C(S),D(S),E,F,H' and posterior ocular scapular pores K',L'. Preopercle canal with pores M',N,O' Scales - Scales in lateral series 53-55(48-57), all ctenoid; scales present on head, predorsal area, breast, upper opercle and cheek. Fins - D1 - VI; D2 - I+13(13-14); anal I+11(11-12); pectoral - 19-20(18-20). Head - Papillae - A transverse pattern with seven transverse rows, rows 2,3,4 extending from orbit to row d; row d continuous; row b with row 5i near anterior end; seperate rows 5i and 6i. Color - Head and body dark, with about 12 narrow, dark vertical bars, more or less defined; in young, sides of head with pale spots and series of discrete dark blotches below lateral midline; dorsal fins with proximal rows of pale spots, and narrow light edge (Miller) Distribution - Maderia, Canary Islands and Salvages islands Habitat - Shallow water and tidepools Notes - |
