A narrow strip of predorsal scales along the midline; all rays of the pectoral fin enclosed within the membrane;pelvic fins anterior frenum with a straight edge (A); sensory papillae small and numerous; jaw
extending to gill opening in adults.....................................................................mirabalis

No predorsal scales present along the midline; uppermost pectoral ray free from
membrane by at least ¼ to ½ its length; pelvic fin frenum with flaps (B); sensory papillae large and distinct; jaw
extending to preopercle in adults................................................................... seta
