Species in this genus
are nearshore, esturine, or brackish water species that inhabit
mud, shell, gravel, or algae covered habitats. They occur in
the west Atlantic from Massachusetts south to Argentina and
in the eastern Pacific from the northern Gulf of California
to at least Panama.
